Fokofpolisiekar live - the early days, 2004

Caption: Die Mystic Boer, Bloemfontein, South Africa, 2004: Members of the Afrikaans Punk Rock band, Fokofpolisiekar, performing live in their first year of active touring. Their track, 'Hemel op die Platteland', from their debut EP, 'As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand', made history when it became the first Afrikaans song to be playlisted on the national radio station 5FM. From 2003 to 2006 they released two full length albums and four EPs. The band has been embroiled in controversy since its inception. Initially, radio stations were hesitant to play the band's tracks because of the profane "Fokof" ("fuck off") in the band's name. Outrage has also been expressed by the Christian community over the use of allegedly "anti-religious" sentiments. In 2007 the band announced that they would concentrate on solo projects. The Fokofpolisiekar off shoot bands include 'Van Coke Kartel', aKING and 'Die Heuwels Fantasties'.
